An image of the WARS Resurrection deck editor We've got two sets of pretty exciting, entirely fan-driven news today. First off, WARS resurrection, the fan group working to make a playable version of the WARS tcg for computor has a large, but smart, announcement: they're changing engines. They were previously using XNA, which would require an install and work on windows, they have since changed to Unity, which will allow anyone to play just from within their browser! Though this certainly slows things down- its a change for the best. After all, this opens up the player base to literally anyone who can get on the internet. We'll keep you updated. You can read the full announcement here: http://warsresurrection.blogspot.com/ We'd also like to announce that the "Talinata Softworks" Webseries (made by members of the Zocho) has been completed! The story revolves around the Talinata Softworks company, the last independant company who refuses to be incorperated into the larger mess of megacorperations on Earth, and their attempt to remain independant... Or maybe more then that. Its set in the "past" of the WARS universe, and has had a good reaction from WARS fans so far, so check it out! HERE. http://kalingkata.weebly.com/talinata.html

We Recently had a chance to chat with the author of WARS: Earther-1 "Healers and Hunters" about WARS, his writing, fans, and plenty else. The interview was fairly meaty so we're splitting it up over 2 weeks. Part one can be read right now, at the link below. Check back here next wednesday for part two of the interview! READ IT RIGHT HERE! http://thezocho.weebly.com/nathan-patrick-butler-interview-part-1.html Its finally here! I Novella which had an excerpt read at the Hanvoer College Geek-A-Thon is available for Nook and Kindle! Links below: Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/Firefight-Overwatch-Command-WARS-ebook/dp/B004X6UOS0/ Nook: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Firefight-at-Overwatch-Command/Jim-Perry/e/2940012422170/ Be sure to check it out, the bit we heard form this book at the Geek-A-Thon was incredible, hilarious, fast paced, and with people you could latch onto. I can't wait to get my hands on it. What are you waiting for- WARS Gongen 1: The Great Journey is now available! You can get it here: http://www.amazon.com/Great-Journey-WARS-Battle-ebook/dp/B004TASCSY Also, WARS is shifting up its product release plan and they will be publishing the first three novellas in a trade paperback for around $14, after encountering some delay or problem with the artists for the illustrated versions. This is great news, as the illustrated versions, through pretty, were admittedly steeply priced. The new price is far mroe reasonable and more in line with other new releases in teh same format. WARS also made a showing at the Hanover College Geek-A-Thon, with special guest Jim Perry! We'll have a full update about that coming soon. Also of note- the comic book series for WARS should be out this summer, while the animated series is still in the books. Hopefully that gets done! I was searching for more WARS art to use for the big project the Zocho is working on (You'll find out soon!) and stumbled accross the origional press release for the WARS novellas, from back in February of 2009. In it I found an interesting tid bit that I had either ignored or forgotten: "Sean E Williams, who is also developing an animated series based on WARS‘ Gongen faction, will be writing the opening story arc for the comic book series. " I did a double take. Then a tripple take. Really? An animated WARS series? How awesome would that be? Hopefully the project is still in production, and hopefully we'll be hearing more about it as time goes on. Keep your fingers crossed. Also hopefully, we'll be updating this article again if we learn more. Origional Press release: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=64470475878 UPDATE: We confirmed with Josh Radke that the Animated Series is still on the table! It won't be out soon however, as it seems to be in early development. Yes, it has arrived. The first WARS novella is in my possession, and it looks amazing. Once I finish reading it there will be a review up, untill then check it out yourself, because IndyPlanet's price on it has dropped from $20 down to $15.99. You can get your own shiny copy right HERE: http://www.indyplanet.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=4568
And you can still check out the first three chapters in PDF and Audio formats right HERE: http://www.grailquestbooks.com/index/?p=304 If you have yours, how do you like it? Discuss in the comments! Grail Quest Books has posted a full interview with the author of the first WARS novella, "Earther 1, Hunters and Healers" HERE. (http://www.grailquestbooks.com/index/?p=864) Check out a juicy excerpt below if you need any more reason why you should read the whole thing: "Why do a novella on WARS™ in 2010 when the last card set for the game was released in very early 2006? Do you know of any plans to revive this game? The goal, I believe, is to revitalize the property as a whole; I have not heard of any specific plans to revive the game at this time. There’s a strong fan base out there and it’s a rich universe for storytelling when explored. Between the novellas and the comic series (coming later), I’m optimistic that his will be a new beginning for WARS™ , rather than a tacked-on “expanded universe” approach after the fact." What you see above is an image from a program being made by some fans that will let you play WARS against other people across the internet, and against computor AI. Its about 60% done according to the developers. We'll be sure to keep you updated on this exciting fan project. The project is being called, "WARS Ressurection".
Their page is in Spanish, but you can check out a Translated version here: http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.aspx?ref=Internal&from=es&to=en&a=http://warsresurrection.blogspot.com/ And the Origional page here: http://warsresurrection.blogspot.com/ It looks like things are starting to fall into place for a real WARS comeback. WARS Universe is the official WARS facebook page, and is the first thing most people will see when they are looking up WARS. To that end, we at the Zocho would like to see it get over 100 fans by this time next week! Its getting closer and closer, so why not help it out a bit? Recomend the page to any of your friends who ever played WARS, love science fiction books, or TCGs in general. The more people who take an interest, the more people will check out the new WARS novellas, and the chances of more of then being produced will increase to.
